Lucy in the Larder

Gail’s is the favourite local cafe of some friends that live nearby in Queens Park.

I love all the cute labels on their takeaway packaging; ‘It’s a new day’ on the coffee cups, ‘Rise and shine’ on the fresh juices and ‘The best thing since’ on the paper bags.

The store front is beautiful – windows piled high with perfectly crafted cakes, slices and sweet treats… a huge table with every kind of artisan bread… carefully stacked jars of homemade jams and preserved fruits.

There was never an appropriate time to eat cakes when we were at Gail’s (I know there doesn’t need to be… but not everyone shares my opinion that dessert works at any meal). I would have sampled the ‘Mini Klugelgof’ (like a spiced fruit sugared doughnut) and Chelsea bun.
